Jim Dunning, co-founder of GK Acquisition, LLC, established The Dunning Group, Inc., in 1992. Based in New York City, the private equity firm focuses its investment strategies on middle-market organizations that offer strong fundamentals, competitive advantages over peer companies, reliable executive leadership groups, and business platforms that allow for future growth. By acquiring equity or mezzanine debt stakes in these companies, which often excel in the media and energy industries, Jim Dunning and his team seek to provide their investments with a wealth of in-house market expertise and business operations experience. In the past, he has served in roles with the Michaelson & Co. hedge fund and Ziff Davis Media, Inc., a technology leader and Internet magazine publisher.
In 2014, the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and United States Southern District Court of New York appointed Mr. Dunning to the position of independent monitor over activities at Harbinger Capital Partners. He will continue to serve in this role through 2016.
Mr. Dunning had earned a bachelor of science in economics from the Wharton School of Business at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.
